The Citanex Ouroboros™ Self-Encrypting Secure Drive is engineered to protect confidential documents, personal records, financial information, forensic evidence, intellectual property, secure backups, and other sensitive data while stored or transported.
Unlike conventional portable drives that depend primarily on encryption software installed on a computer, Ouroboros authenticates access directly through the device. Stored data remains encrypted and inaccessible until authorized credentials are entered through the integrated touchscreen interface.
Its premium metallic-blue exterior, durable protective construction, touchscreen authentication controls, and distinctive Citanex security design make Ouroboros suitable for executive, professional, investigative, and personal use.
Hardware-Based Data Protection
Ouroboros provides FIPS 197-certified XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption within a self-contained portable solid-state drive. Authentication occurs directly on the device, reducing dependence on software or the security configuration of the computer to which it is connected. The underlying drive is OS-independent and includes built-in brute-force protection.
Configurable brute-force protection can automatically crypto-erase the drive’s encryption key after repeated unsuccessful password attempts, rendering the stored encrypted data inaccessible.
Secure Recovery Identification
Each Citanex Ouroboros™ Drive is individually laser engraved with a unique recovery identifier and secure return instructions.
Should the device be lost and later found, the finder can contact the Citanex Security Operations Center. Citanex can then coordinate the secure recovery and return of the physical device without publicly disclosing the owner’s identity or compromising the encrypted information stored on it.
The recovery identifier supports the return of the physical drive. It does not provide access to encrypted data, unlock the device, or replace the authorized password.

The Secure Locator Card can help locate the carrying case, security bag, or travel container holding the drive, while Ouroboros protects the stored information through hardware encryption, on-device authentication, configurable brute-force protection, and Citanex secure-recovery identification.

Important Security Notice
Authorized credentials are required to access encrypted information stored on the device. Customers are responsible for securely retaining their credentials and following the supplied authentication, backup, and recovery instructions.
When separate Administrator and User credentials are configured, the Administrator credential may permit a forgotten User credential to be reset without erasing the stored data, provided secure erase has not already been activated.
The laser-engraved recovery identifier enables Citanex to assist with the secure return of a lost physical device. It does not unlock the drive, replace an authorized credential, or provide Citanex with access to the encrypted data.
Depending on the selected security configuration, forgotten Administrator credentials, repeated unsuccessful authentication attempts, or activation of brute-force or secure-erase protections may permanently render the stored data inaccessible. These protections can erase the drive’s passwords and encryption key, preventing subsequent recovery of the encrypted information. Citanex may be unable to recover data when valid credentials, current backups, or applicable recovery options are unavailable.
